St. John’s is currently looking for a new rector. Beginning in February of 2019, a Search Committee of 12 parishioners began the process to understand who we were as a community, what we wanted for our future, and what kind of rector could help with the journey.
The entire parish was surveyed and the results were used to develop both a Rector profile as well as a Parish profile. These documents should be helpful to prospective clergy in determining if this is a place they would like to serve.
Rector Profile
St. John’s Episcopal Church seeks a full-time Rector who is a person of spirituality and religious discipline, who has the ability, enthusiasm, and personality to encourage spirituality and discipline in members of the congregation. The Rector’s spirituality can be demonstrated through their attitude and sermons. St. Johns congregation expects the Rector to provide guidance, to nurture our faith, and to convey the loving presence of the creator, teacher, and sustainer. The Rector’s discipline can be demonstrated through integrity and consistency in preaching, teaching, liturgical practice, and life-long learning.
The ideal candidate is a flexible and open-minded person who actively supports and encourages youth and lay ministry in the parish and diocese. The candidate exhibits the ability to relate well to others and to work effectively with the Vestry, parish leaders,and lay committees. St. John’s congregation expects the Rector to share our commitment to liturgy, music,diversity, outreach, and community service.

- Sermons drawn from scriptures that reflect on current issues
- Involvement with the diocese and its programs
- Involvement in the larger Mt. Pleasant community

- Recruiting, retaining, and nurturing membership, including through outreach to local colleges and to people from diverse backgrounds
- Guidance in the development of future directions for the congregation, including new ideas for stewardship
