Welcome to St. John's Episcopal Church
Our liturgy is somewhat formal, yet contemporary - we kneel in prayer, we chant the psalms, our organ is one of the finest in Central Michigan and our choir is exceptional (we are always looking for new members, though). We do our best to minister to the poor and the marginalized, we support the arts, our theology is progressive, and we have a great time getting together, whether for Sunday worship, volunteering in the community, or a Blessing of the Animals.
Unfamiliar with The Episcopal Church? Come and see. Not sure about worship? Come and see. Looking for a deeper meaning in your life? Come and see.
We will be glad to welcome you!

Who We Are
St. John's Episcopal Church is a community of university faculty, staff, and students, social workers, retired people, librarians, electricians, plumbers. psychologists, tech-specialists, hospice caregivers, nurses, public school faculty and staff, elementary, middle school and high-school students, high-end earners and people on the financial margin. We are people of many colors. We are "cradle Episcopalians" and we come from other traditions. We are traditional and progressive. We are straight, gay, non-binary, single and married or partnered, widowed and divorced. We are Mt. Pleasant-born and from out-of-state and from out-of-country. We are a community and we'd like you to join us.
What We Believe
At St. John's we embrace diverse and thoughtful theologies. We are Christian, professing our faith in the ancient Creeds of the church, yet we are open to honest inquiry and conversation. We hope that you are prayerful in your reflection and sincere in your faith - at the same, we welcome you no matter where you are in your spiritual journey.
What Sacraments Do Episcopalians Believe In
The Episcopal Church (and Anglican Communion) hold to two great (Christ-given) Sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion. We believe in Baptism - the one is baptized Christian, not a Roman Catholic, Episcopalian, or Presbyterian. We welcome all baptized persons of any age or denomination to Christ's Table for Holy Communion, which we see as communion with God in Christ Jesus and communion with one another, our brothers and sisters. We also believe that there are five "lesser" (but no less important) Sacraments: Confirmation, Marriage, Burial, Unction (the blessing of the sick) and Ordination to Holy Orders.
